100 points for Christmas? Why not. If you didn’t get a big bottle get a little one. I was poking around my personal warehouse this afternoon and found five bottles of Trevor Jones Tokay Liqueur NV. Trevor and I found these in his father’s basement. When I tasted it, I felt like a kid who had discovered pirate treasure or Ali Baba’s cave. I knew the moment I tasted it for the first time I was in the presence of perfection and Robert Parker agreed and gave it 100 points. I’ve been drinking a bottle over the past week, an ounce or two a night. It’s like a historic relic from ancient Greece or a great work of art. It just causes me to stop at a dead stand still in pure awe and wonderment. How can something liquid be this good? We’re not even sure how old it is? Trevor got it from his father who go the barrel from his father. Could be 50 years old. Could be 100. Could be more. But one thing for sure, this is a once in a lifetime opportunity. The Australians compare these ultra-old fortified wines to “treacle.” Or molasses. There’s such intense richness and complexity that can only be described as surreal, other-worldy, even unnatural. This is apparently one of only 20 Australian wines Robert Parker awarded 100 points. I have no idea how to price five bottles so I made up a stupid price. $500 a bottle? Nope. $100?
